Creating Sustainable Retail Solutions with Service-oriented Architecture

Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) has brought about first and foremost by the nonstop changing businesses. New products, new customers, new partners, new counterparts, and ambitious business process management implay ongoing software modifications. Point-to-point integration of enterprise resource planning systems, legacy systems and other enterprise applications cause out of control costs as changes occure and these integration failures make businesses fail to achieve potential revenues. Data collection for this article comes from the case company Retail Business System (RBS), a market-leading Swedish retail solution vendor. The empiric data from participating observations in the case company’s recent projects, with Scandinavian retailers as customers, and supplementary interviews with case company’s business architects and hired solution architects – is operationalized on the adoption and the diffusion of innovations theory. The process of designing the right scale and content of services that are reusable in multiple business experiences is studied.
